INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS The file transfer protocol (FTP) is used to transfer files from your computer to Luventicus' (upload). Because FTP is fast and reliable, Luventicus considers it the preferred method for authors to transmit their electronic files. Directories for Reports, our Database, the Luventicus' Artwork Collection, our Magazine, and the sections
Didactics, Kids, Teens, College,
Cosmos and Ecology have been set up on our FTP site. Authors can access these folders by logging on anonymously to our FTP server at ftp.luventicus.org and navigating to: Important: Please choose unique, descriptive file names that not include spaces or special characters. If available, file names should include the manuscript number. Transmission of electronic files is quicker and more reliable if the files are first compressed or concatenated. Luventicus can accept files processed using the following compression programs: PK-Zip (WinZip), StuffIt!, Z (Unix compress), and GZ (GnuZip). All other compression schemes are unacceptable. All files including binary information, e.g. all files using compression schemes, must use the binary (bin) ftp protocol for uploading or they will be altered during transmission and become unusable. If you are using an FTP client (e.g. Total Commander), just enter the following information in the connection menu, and then transfer the files. Host Name: "ftp.luventicus.org" Login: "author" Password: solicite your password to ftp@luventicus.org Path: To get the software Windows Commander (shareware) by Christian Ghisler visit his web site following the link which appears beside this text area. To transfer files by means of a web browser that supports uploading (e.g. Netscape Navigator), just enter the URL If you are doing this via a text interface (e.g. UNIX command line or from terminal emulator) type the following without quotes (case matters): "ftp://ftp.luventicus.org" - connect to Luventicus' FTP server "author" - anonymous name solicite a password to ftp@luventicus.org - password "cd
