Tourism in Peru
Al país de los incas se dirigen año tras año miles de turistas deseosos de conocer los vestigios de la cultura precolombina más importante de América del Sur. La ciudad de Cuzco, considerada por los aborígenes como "el Ombligo del Mundo" y conocida hoy como "la Capital Arqueológica de América", ha sido declarada "Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad" por la UNESCO y es el principal centro turístico del Perú. Cerca de ella se encuentra "la Ciudad Perdida de los Incas", Machu Picchu. Los amantes
del trekking pueden llegar hasta allí siguiendo el "Camino Inca a Machu Picchu". Otros centros de interés para el turista son: Arequipa, "la Ciudad Blanca", caracterizada por sus edificaciones en piedra sillar, entre las que se destaca el Convento de Santa Catalina (1580); el Callejón de Huaylas, ubicado en el centro del departamento de Ancash ("la Suiza peruana"), con sus cerros nevados, glaciares, lagunas y valles floridos; y Lima, la ciudad más importante del continente en tiempos de la
colonia, hoy capital de la República del Perú.
